Yes, tell us that story and what happened with the Amazon/Linda war.
The Amazon/Linda war kinda fizzled after a while. Also because Amazzon started clamping down (don´t hurt the business, please !).
The story is kinda well told by the New Yorker article.
Yep, IWC? actually made it into the New Yorker way back when. Of course, with the show being a smash, we have faded back into irrelevance. Since censoros had the same fate, I´m fine with that.
The Gods of Detraction are Liotta and Pesci, of course, with Finish The Book, George. First entry:
And actually, I have to correct myself. The birth of the Detractor movement was following comment by Mr. Martin:
I am perfectly aware that A DANCE WITH DRAGONS is late. There's no need to remind me, thanks, I have plenty of editors and agents and publishers to do that.
So please, if you want to comment here, stay on topic.
And if you want to comment on other matters... including, but not limited to, the lateness of A DANCE WITH DRAGONS, that's fine, just go do it on your own blogs. I don't allow Anonymous comments, so everyone posting here has their own Live Journal account, and presumably their own blog. Tell you what, you talk about whatever you like on your blogs, and I'll talk about whatever I want on mine.
Yes, I'm a big believer in free speech. Everyone is entitled to a soapbox. But that doesn't mean you're all entitled to use MY soapbox.
And no, I'm not opening THIS post for comment. This stuff is not open for debate. You guys can make the rules for your own blogs; these are the rules here."

If anything, I would recommend that people leaf through their archives from entry 01 in sept 2008 thru nov 2008. I am re-flying through that right now and it is amazing how the issues back then are mirror images of what we experience with Martin these days. Nothing - I mean absolutely nothing (!) - has changed since then. It is exactly (!) the same (!!) bullshit from GRRM. Over and over again.

Perhaps they were bored with repeating themselves and couldn't come up with new material?

Yep. Add to that the dissatisfaction about the quality of aDwD. It was supposed to be kick-ass. It wasn´t. In the end, you just move on. At least they did it when they were still not too far from the top of their game.

Then again, looking at this, it may be just your argument:
Anyways, the reason why Pesci and I will have to continue writing – a habit that actually doesn’t take very long to acquire – and keep this blog going is really quite simple:
A Dance With Dragons is going to suck. Like, suck donkey balls.
I discussed this matter extensively with Pesci yesterday, just before a rousing nighttime online Gears of War 2 match that left us both feeling emasculated by the wily 20 year olds who repeatedly handed our asses to us. Pesci said to me, “Hey little brother, the people want to know what’s going to happen to our blog once ADWD comes out. They say we won’t have anything to write about.” And I replied, “Dude, don’t worry. That book is going to suck. We’ve got material to keep us going for years, the way Captain Cheesecake does things.”
Okay, so in retrospect, that conversation wasn’t really very interesting. However, the point is valid: ADWD will suck. Why do I think this? Because AFFC sucked, and at the beginning, we were led to believe that ADWD and AFFC were two halves of the same book. Now sure, a lot of changes could have been made since the original split was enacted. But I am fairly convinced that the quality of AFFC reflects to some degree what we will be able to expect from ADWD. There will probably be like six chapters on stuff I care about, and twenty chapters on new characters, Catelyn’s speech therapy lessons, and the exact shade of red that dribbles down Petyr Baelish’s chin as he bites into a very detailed strawberry.
Fucking visionary about the book. Highly ironic about themselves. I kinda miss those time 5-7 years ago. There was some freshness to these proceedings back then. Nowadays...me-h...

It reminds me of people who are in abusive relationships- the ones who stick to the status quo (like me- with regards to the book I mean), hanging onto every morsel to rationalize it's going to get better, it must get better, otherwise all this time and investment will be for nothing- but the longer you stick around, the worse it gets, and you just don't want to have to face the music.
as voice put it, we've been trained to become his Reek, and yes, I'll be ordering my ebook and hard cover to arrive on the publication date. I'll own up to that.

My fear is GRRM becoming a Robert Jordan- not the death, but with the series getting boring. Because I'll read every book and then reread again to try and understand what everyone is raving about
another favorite author of mine, Ken Follett, wrote his sequel to Pillars of the Earth 20 years later, but I have no beef, because it was good as a stand alone novel. ALSO, Mr. Follett is arguably a bigger international star than GRRM, and unless he's changed recently, he was still signing books people would send to him provided they paid return postage. He didn't bitch about signing Pillars when he was writing his espionage books- which are really entertaining, btw, if you haven't read them.

Jordan became excruciating after Book 6 or so, but at least he put them out there every 2 years. Imagine Martin doing the same every 5 years. Arf...WTF am I even talking about ? We´ll get tWoW and that´s the end of the story...
