OK, not that anybody gives a shit anymore these days, but after that mega update we got a couple of weeks ago, now this:
((And before anyone starts to panic, “oh my god he is making videos in place of writing,” OF COURSE I am still working on WINDS OF WINTER as well. That really should go without saying, yet somehow I need to say it, or someone might make stupid assumptions. I am also doing some editorial work on three new Wild Cards books, reading scripts and making notes on a couple of exciting Hollywood projects, texting with agents, editors, and friends about this and that, eating several meals a day, watching television, reading books, and from time to time using the toilet. Just because I do not mention it in every Not A Blog does not mean it is not happening))

Gosh, it sometimes feels hopeless. Does he need to be reminded that he is up against his deadline? Even though world con isn't happening, the date didn't go away. Even locking him up for Covid didn't help him finish the book.
Their father understood as well. "You want no pup for yourself, Jon?" he asked softly.

It is just who he is. He is too dispersive, loves to multitask, gets bored easily. Short stories and single-volume novels are his format, not multivolume epics. Even Wild Cards is more of an editing job where he can delve into different writers without getting bored.

I do think you have him pegged. But he did so much better early in the formation of this series. The first three books must have flowed out of him, then he started stuttering and sputtering. I can totally understand wanting some different area's to focus on, but it's like he's drawn to those projects and pushing away at ASOIAF. I think he might be a little afraid of his own ending, and how the public might react to it. He is not as bold as he once was!

Sounds spot-on to me. Which is a grim outlook for the fandom.
