That's okay, I use too many words and it might have gotten lost. But let's use your definition of baphomet - you said "alchemy, magic, enlightenment, knowledge." That's our Bloodstone Emperor. He started the church of starry wisdom, and he worshipped a black stone which fell from the sky. I believe that taking down the second moon amounts stealing the fire or knowledge of the gods. The Grey King has a different version of this, where he steals the fire from the gods in the form a thunderbolt which sets fire to a tree. And here we are, back at burning trees, which is where the fiery sorcerers wake from. It's really the same story - a tree killer, calling down heavenly fire, and triggering some sort of fiery transformation.
Alchemy is definitely involved, as George uses a couple alchemical concepts when he depicts Daenerys's transformative moments of waking the dragon and flying through the red door (red being the color of transformation in alchemy). She views the waking of dragons event as a wedding, but it's an alchemical wedding, one of transformation, if you catch my drift. It's a death and rebirth for Daenerys, and the transformation of the stone eggs to waking dragons. There's also an alchemical concept which views the shining face of the sun as a lion, but views the "shadow self" of the sun as a dragon. And I think that's exactly what Azor Ahai / the Bloodstone Emperor is - the shadow version of the sun, the darkened sun, the night sun, etc. A golden crown turned black.
George has transferred much of the lore of the Morningstar and Evenstar from Venus over to the comet, as I made the case for in this essay. That's easy to see with his Sword of the Morning, a sword made from a comet stone, and of course Lucifer means "son of the morning and dawn-bringer in addition to light-bringer. Azor Ahai fits all the hallmarks of a Morningstar deity like Jesus or Lucifer or Osiris, pulling down the fire and knowledge of heaven to give to man. Thus the lucifer / morningstar connections to Azor Ahai tie him to the ideas of Satan and dragons.
That is what I am talking about when I say that AA seems to be based on baphomet and Satan and Lucifer ideas. And yes, I'm well aware that the association of Lucifer with Satan is largely a translation error from a 6th century pope. Nevetheless, it wasn't a nonsensical mistake, as the snake in the garden is very morningstar / baphomet like, bringing man the knowledge of good and evil.
Im interested in your clarifications of horned God mythology one hand, as I can see that's right in your wheelhouse, but I'm also curious what you think of the raw ASOIAF idea here, that of these fiery sorcerers that are linked to burning trees. The Stannis symbolism of a burning stag as AA.... Thoughts?
I figured that since you are already seeing greenseers who wield ice, greenseers wielding fire and being transformed by fire would appeal to you.
