Fun inverse echo #3: The Hound, Arya Stark's kidnapper, lowly servant referred to as "dog", is possibly the most grotesque man in the Seven Kingdoms. Black hair, black eyes, disfigured face....a true monster, appearance-wise, loathed and feared by all. Compare to Lyanna Stark's presumed kidnapper, Rhaegar Targaryen: Noble, royal Crown Prince, the most beautiful man in the Seven Kingdoms. Silver-haired, purple-eyed, flawless face, loved and admired by all. Yet we see in the series that Sandor, for all his physical flaws and undercurrent of violence, actually performs some fairly valiant deeds (many on behalf of the Stark girls) worthy of a true knight of legend, and operates with a surprising moral code. What do you suppose this might mean for beautiful, noble Rhaegar Targaryen? If Ser Arthur Dayne wasn't who people thought he was, did Ned discover that he wasn't? He did kill him after all, because his opposite, Sandor "died" without anyone knowing that he was honorable after all.
I've got to get ready for work! Otherwise, I'd love to dig deep into this!
Now Hightower....he's in there, but I haven't made up my mind on him yet. Maybe he's the inversion of Jaime, or he could also be a Meryn Trant-like figure, KG lapdog that follows orders without question or hesitation even though the actions may be completely against his knightly vows. Or a mix of both.
Anyway, I like where this is going - let's keep going there!
