Either they're using Maisie as a double for Lyanna or Lyanna liking to play at swords isn't as important to the TV show.
I would guess the second. But then again I'm not sure it's even that important to the books though to be honest, beyond Lyanna possibly thinking she knew how to wield a sword and then someone gutted her real quick and she found out the hard way that she didn't know how to wield a sword.
Your lordship lost a son at the Red Wedding. I lost four upon the Blackwater. And why? Because the Lannisters stole the throne. Go to King’s Landing and look on Tommen with your own eyes, if you doubt me. A blind man could see it. What does Stannis offer you? Vengeance. Vengeance for my sons and yours, for your husbands and your fathers and your brothers. Vengeance for your murdered lord, your murdered king, your butchered princes. Vengeance!
Using their local sources, Los Siete Reinos has been able to identify what Game of Thrones locations cities will be standing in for, this year. Game of Thrones production has been busy this week with costume fittings for extras and as the show gets ready to film in the area, some secrets have slipped out.
Most excitingly, their sources have confirmed that, as suspected by many, the Castillo de Zafra in Campillo de Dueñas will be playing the part of the Tower of Joy.
Plus new breakdown for the Legendary Fighter
Male, 30-35 years old
This heroic handsome figure is a legendary sword fighter and we want someone who looks heroic and like a fierce and efficient experienced fighter. We need a muscular physique and heroic look. He really does have to have physical impact. The flamboyant aspects of the fighting will be taken over by a stunt fighter but we need someone who looks like they can take care of themselves.
Appears in one episode and has a couple of lines but the fight scene in which he appears is massive and memorable.
Shoot dates are week commencing 28th September in Northern Ireland
Since the new info from Los Siete Reinos tells us that Castillo de Zafra will serve as the exterior location of the Tower of Joy, we have to ask now why this actor for the “Legendary Swordfighter” is not needed in Spain, only Northern Ireland.
It is possible though that Game of Thrones is presenting its own take on the scene, and depicting the fight taking place inside the tower. In this case, the scene would be filmed most likely in the Belfast studios, safe from prying eyes. It’s also possible that the hero encounters his opponent inside the tower, and they exchange a few lines of dialogue and tussle a bit before the fight moves outside, and the stunt fighter takes over.
Plus Oldtown confirmed
Another interesting piece of information Los Siete Reinos uncovered is that Girona in Spain will be serving as two major show locations for season 6, Oldtown and Braavos.

Interesting, Ned must have been a very strong one to help rip that tower down. I hope he had some help
A Game of Thrones - Eddard X
"I gave them over to the silent sisters, to be sent north to Winterfell. Jory would want to lie beside his grandfather."
It would have to be his grandfather, for Jory's father was buried far to the south. Martyn Cassel had perished with the rest. Ned had pulled the tower down afterward, and used its bloody stones to build eight cairns upon the ridge. It was said that Rhaegar had named that place the tower of joy, but for Ned it was a bitter memory. They had been seven against three, yet only two had lived to ride away; Eddard Stark himself and the little crannogman, Howland Reed. He did not think it omened well that he should dream that dream again after so many years.
"You've done well, Alyn," Ned was saying when Vayon Poole returned. The steward bowed low. "His Grace is without, my lord, and the queen with him."

I sort of cringe when I hear them filming the tower of joy. I doubt they will be able to handle something that is supposed to be very subtle and emotive, given the heavy handedness of Season 5, and the fact that they seem to be emphasising the fighting. Ugh, I'm wondering if I shouldn't just skip it until I read TWOW, because I really don't want the truth of the tower scene revealed by the show.

Well given that they waited till season 6 to do the TOJ, the scene should be vastly different from the book. Because the book was Ned's dream, and Ned's dead. Which means the only way to do the TOJ is through a character's memory, or through a weirnet vision. Either way though these are historical compared to Ned's subconscious rendering. GRRM has told us Ned's dream was not what happened so the show should be showing us something different.
That being said, I fully expect them to do Ned's dream version instead as the "real" event, and that it will be horrible. Sorry but "our knees don't bend easily" or "woe to the Usurper" or really any line from Ned's dream is going to come across as bad. Especially when all their boasting turns out to be nothing when Ned and Howland kill them and walk away.

Ditto. When I heard about this, I thought it wasn't going to go well.
Currently Game of Thrones is looking to cast the role of a “hapless sly son to cruel father.” The son is in his late 30’s.
The detailed description (beware of spoilers!): This is a very good part in this season who appears in three episodes. We need a characterful-looking guy – long nose and skeletal features and perhaps a bit sly – to play a son who is unable to live up to the demands of his savage father. We need a really good actor for this part – he has good scenes with lots of the leading cast. The character has a great storyline. There are no options and this is a one-off opportunity for a good clever actor to come and make his mark on this major hit show.
I don't really think of Rhaegar as a characterful looking person who's clever

Yeah, it doesn't really match up with the Prince of Emos as described in the book.
Personally I don't want there to be a lot of flash backs. They need all the time they can get to focus on the present characters without spending even more time on flash backs. It'd make this season feel a bit of a waste if it was just full of flash backs.
Smalljon Umber is the Lord of Noble Northern House from the previous casting breakdown
Lord of Noble Northern House: (Casting age anywhere between 25-50) The lord is a savage warrior, and he rules a distinguished house in the very far North, and the role is said to be an impactful one. He’s described as a massive bear of a man with a beard and temper to match, and hatred that run deep, and he can be violent. The show’s looking for someone with a powerful physique who can tower over other cast members, a Northern English Accent and specifies he has to be at least 180 cm tall. The role will be on 2 episodes.
We can now confirm for our readers that, as many suspected, the savage bear-like Noble lord is Smalljon Umber. This is a change from the novels, since Smalljon Umber was killed at the Red Wedding in A Storm of Swords. Since we never met Smalljon on the show, however, that leaves Game of Thrones free to introduce his character, since the Greatjon disappeared after the first season (and a reported actor-scheduling difficulty for season 2).
Lord Karstark is Lord of Northern Stronghold from the previous casting breakdown
Lord of Northern Stronghold: The show’s looking for an actor in his late thirties or forties to play another lord, one that’s ruthless and calculating. The frightening lord rules a vassal household with a castle stronghold. He’ll be in 3 episodes this year, with 20 days of filming this summer and fall.
The second Northern Lord is the new Lord Karstark. Robb Stark executed the previous Lord Karstark in season 3 for leading the killing of two young hostages. It’s not clear if this new Karstark is connected to the books’ current Karstarks or if the show has developed their own character. There are some shenanigans around the lordship of Karstark in the later novels, and Northern Stronghold lord doesn’t sound in description like a direct match to any one character. Unfortunately, we didn’t hear anything about a first name for this character so there’s something of a mystery there, but he is Lord Karstark.

Sources report that Danish actor Pilou Asbæk will be playing the role of Euron Greyjoy. The actor was spotted shooting today with the cast around Ballintoy Harbour, in a scene that involved a crowd cheering for Euron.
Asbæk starred in the successful Danish series Borgen as Kasper Juul, along with GoT guest star Birgitte Hjort Sørensen. He appeared as Paolo Orsini on The Borgias, and is playing Pontius Pilate in the newest version of Ben-Hur.
HBO has declined to confirm all castings this year, so we can’t call this casting official at this time.

It’s official: We’re going to meet at least one member of Samwell Tarly’s family next year.
HBO’s Game of Thrones has cast UnREAL star Freddie Stroma in season 6.
The English actor is going to play Dickon Tarly — Samwell’s brother.
Stroma is best known for his role on Lifetime’s acclaimed dramedy UnREAL where he played the sought-after bachelor on a fictionalized The Bachelor-type reality show. He also appeared in the final two Harry Potter films and has a role in the upcoming Michael Bay movie 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. He is likely to appear in the second season of UnREAL, as well.
