To be fair though, I'm not sure how "canon" this series of correspondence is. My main concern relies on the description GRRM apparently gave for Aerys II
AERYS II. The Mad King. Only in his forties when he died, but he looked much older. Very thin (he was afraid of being poisoned) and gaunt, with wild, tangled hair past his shoulders, and fingernails almost a foot long (he would not allow blades in his presence, even to cut his hair and trim his beard). Wears the big, elaborate crown of Aegon the Unworthy.
1. Aerys was 39 when he died. He was not in his 40's. 2. This SSM was released only 2 weeks after AFFC... the book which did not describe Aerys II as having looked old as Jaime specifically reflects on Aerys during his last few weeks of life and he gives no hint that he looked anything but a middle aged 39 year old (Jaime says he had matted gold-silver hair).
So while GRRM apparently gave a correspondence with an "Amok" who designed most of the "official" Targaryen pictures, I'm not quite ready to accept their validitiy as I feel there's something wrong with the Aerys II description apparently supplied from GRRM as I feel it goes against the books. And I will take the books over anything.
Your lordship lost a son at the Red Wedding. I lost four upon the Blackwater. And why? Because the Lannisters stole the throne. Go to King’s Landing and look on Tommen with your own eyes, if you doubt me. A blind man could see it. What does Stannis offer you? Vengeance. Vengeance for my sons and yours, for your husbands and your fathers and your brothers. Vengeance for your murdered lord, your murdered king, your butchered princes. Vengeance!
Thread at the W got heated, and then unceremoniously locked. I hate it when Mods do that without explanation.
Looking over the last page, my guess is because everyone suddenly stopped talking about the subject at hand and was instead wildly off topic. So the mods locked the thread because it was no longer on topic. But if I had to guess, that was a completely planned event.
I've seen almost all the posters who decided not to discuss the new revelation that the lemon tree discrepancy is very real but instead started making up nonsense posts, do that very thing when someone posts something that they don't like in other threads. It's a common tactic to bury the post they didn't like within nonsense so that posters will just scroll through pages till the discussion hopefully starts back up in earnest and possibly miss the post or to get the topic locked. Ran already vehemently opposed the subject so it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he was just waiting for any opportunity to lock that thread. And Ran is one of the mods who never bothers to explain his decisions... and the thread was locked with no explanation.

Yeah, I feel bad for the lemon tree guy. He was so excited about his live journal comment from George
I guess he can bookmark his page and link it again in 10 or 15 years if he finds out he was right all along.

And can then rant and rave about his genius. So--might be a win-win. Gets to be a tortured genius. Then a success. All good.
All art is at once surface and symbol. Those who go beneath the surface do so at their peril. Those who read the symbol do so at their peril. It is the spectator, and not life, that art really mirrors. Oscar Wilde.
IMO though the easiest solution is that Rhaella did die in childbirth... to a stillborn daughter. Someone was then replaced as this baby, either immediately on Dragonstone (Dragonstone during the Dance had tons of Targaryen bastards) or later on. Hence Viserys always calling Dany his "sweet sister" which is a derogatory sentence in the books to discuss someone who is a bitch, or someone you wished was your sister.
Might it not be even a bit easier if Rhaella is her mother--but Aerys not the father?
Am assuming that Darry has been posited as being Dany's father, yes? Might explain a few things. Not sure if it would explain going to Dorne or any other lemon-plenty place. But if Jaime is horrified by Aerys' treatment of Rhaella, can only imagine how others in the Red Keep might feel who've been there a lot longer than Jaime. . .

Congratulations on coming up with a new idea that i haven't seen before. Most people if they think Dany is a bastard usually suggest Ser Bonnifer Hasty.

Seriously? I get the Ser Bonnifer idea. But Darry goes off with them--before the sack. Dany is born 9 months after the sack. . .She has such lovely memories of him.
Might also explain why he had to break into the nursery to get them--he wasn't supposed to be there. . .
Just seems like someone would have guessed long before I did.
How is that tied to lemons? No idea. Though I did want to ask--you had the lemon smileys, right? Any chance of your adding them to the smiley cache?

Yes seriously. But once you mentioned it, it seemed like a "no-brainer" hidden right in plain sight.

Also, how do I add them to to the smiley cache?
I finally thought of something original! (she said, knowing full well someone else on the board will come along and laughingly point out they came up with the same idea 10 years ago).
As for the smileys--does it say how to do so in the Welcome/site help section? If not, maybe ask Mojo.

If Dany isn't Aerys's child, then it's plausible that she was picked up to pose as one so that Viserys had something to sell to the Dothraki.
And if this is true, and if she's not a Targaryen, then it throws a lot of theories regarding "needing dragonblood to ride a dragon" off the ship, because apparently, all you need is blood...
I think she is Targaryen atleast half, mom or dad is up for debate.I could see her being Rhaegella's daughter, but not Aerys.

@serduncan can add smileys for you, just add the smiley to the list in the smiley thread. It's by the welcome section.

::iwin:: Yes, that is actually pretty brilliant! I don't know if it's mentioned in @prettypig's Wild and Wacky Darry thread, but I bet she'd like it.
and yes, you are correct about the smileys/welcome section. Thanks, SW
