One of the things I love about this series is how much I've continued to learn new info when I have done a reread. Things I didn't notice because I was just reading for zen vs detective work. One thing I didn't link together right away were all the themes of cannibalism in Dance. The POVs are all spread out, so I didn't put 2+2 together right away with Frey pies. It wasn't until I started digging up the songs that were being played and reading what they were about before I realized that Manderly was a total...badass, I guess! He lurved his Frey pies! Yummy.

I missed Damphair being literally, Damp-hair. I think the half-vampire (damfyr?) characters in movies at the time threw me off. And I totally did not see the red wedding coming.

Lol! A few days ago, I was discussing this with Direwolf Blitzer and @danceswithflagons. I had been calling him "Dam-fa-ear" until I heard it on audio recently! Now I get the joke!
DWB & I both prefer Lord Fry vs Fray, and as far as I'm concerned, I'm going to keep calling him Lord French Fry.
the Gs get me, too. I don't know when it's George or Gary.

Knowing that GRRM based The Wall on Hadrian's Wall, and despite having been hip-deep in this series for several years now, I only put together after THREE rereads this connection: the Wall, "take the black" to "join the Watch" = the Black Watch of Scotland. WTF.

Don't feel bad. I'm on 3 and I never thought of that :-)

Oh, I say Lord Fray. I think because I randomly spell gray & grey. Drives my kids in school nuts ;-)

Heh. It's been 6 years for me and I never knew. And my granny was a Scot!! *hanging head in shame*

For me it took three reads to understand that Brienne's chapters are full of information. I enjoyed them but I didn't realize how much else GRRM was trying to tell us, instead of simply travelogue/fill in. I know a lot of people think her chapters are the most boring.
I have a lot of thoughts about Brienne, she doesn't get enough attention.
So I shouldn't have been skimming then? Yeah she's boring. I'll ask you when I get to her. Haven't read since we got started with setting this place up.

Yeah, I discussed that with a friend, and it really wasn't as obvious as people make it out to be. First, you need to connect all the cannibalism references in Dance. Next, you need to remember the stories from Sword about the rat cook
i think there was a reference to Lem with his yellow cloak- was that him? And then in Feast there was a guy with a yellow cloak in river run. I caught that in read 2 or 3 I think.

If Lem was there I still haven't noticed. It took till my second reading to realize that the singer at RR was Tom O'Sevens though... Didn't pick up on the Frey pies until I saw it on W either. I did pick up on RLJ pretty quickly, which of course means it's probably wrong ::horseshit:: Really like the new smileys BTW!
Why must I always be the isle of crazy alone in an ocean of sensibility? The should to everybody else’s shouldn’t? The I-will to their better-nots?

Oh, maybe it was Tom, not Lem! Lol! It was somebody glad you like the smileys! Speaking of RLJ, try typing :: rlj :: without the spaces.
