On my second watch and that Ed Sheeran scene, while charming, does go on about a minute too long. A bit of a liberty when so much of the actual story got zoomed (or montaged) past. voice, Sam does look weird AF in white, I knew something was off with him but I couldn't figure out what, I read your post and the penny dropped That Euron/Cersei scene was even funnier the second time, I love how he's obv trying his damndest not to go full-Euron but little does he know he's talking to the maddest motherfucker in Westeros !! Cersei though, smh, "he betrayed me" even NK was like, "damn bitch, that's cold". Jaime/Cersei murder/suicide, 99% confirmed, imo. Those Hound scenes, hell fucking yes. Rory McCann is a gem of an actor, please D&D, please give him actual words to say. I loved the two references he made, "I've seen better men than you hanging from crossbeams (Brother Ray) or beheaded (Ned Stark). Sandor's might be the best, most fully realised character arc in the whole mother effing show
Would be cool, but I don't think she'll be killing them. I think this scene was meant to humanize the Lannisters. Wolf and Lion might one day hunt together.
Could be. I'm hoping she'll take on the Lady Stoneheart role and avenge herself on all Freys and Lannisters she encounters, regardless of their personal guilt. But more likely (in D&D world) she'll meet up with the Brotherhood and ride North with them, giving us some more of those popular Arya/Hound scenes. Which I'm fine with, I just think she's darker than this in the books.
If Bran arrives, I don't think he'll care. His priorities are all wintery.
Yes but so are Jon's, and still he has to fight Sansa every step of the way. She wants to play the Game, and I expect Bran will take Jon's side and remind her that the Game no longer matters. I am also hoping that his mere presence will force her to back off a little. She currently thinks she should be ruling Winterfell, and that Jon doesn't really deserve to rule. But Bran is the rightful lord/king, and even if he doesn't choose to step into that role, he will still be a reminder every day that there are two male Starks ahead of her and she'll just have to find her own castle somewhere else. Not to mention that Bran apparently can look at a person and see their life history (as he did with Edd)...? That won't work out well for LF, I imagine.
voice, Maester Sam, I can't believe you guys made me go down this rabbit hole again !!! My head is now completely burst trying to figure out how the hell The Waif turned into Jaqen. So who is The Waif in season 6 ? How could they use her face if Arya doesn't cut it off until season 6 ? How was she even able to cut it off ? How could the s6 Waif use a face from the hall ? Was she a fully fledged FM ? How the fuck is Arya's face on dead, not-Jaqen ? Why does he kill himself for Arya ? I DON'T UNDERSTAND !!!!!!!!
I learned long ago that you have to just ignore holes/inconsistencies/random shit that makes no sense in Arya's show plot. It's sad, and frustrating, given how amazing her book arc has been ... but there is no way around it. It's just crappy writing, by people who apparently didn't understand who the Faceless Men are, what they do, how the face changing works, etc. Trying to understand it will only make you throw things at your TV.

That's why I think she's going to kill them. Otherwise, why spend so long showing her have a meal with some Lannister soldiers??? It's a waste of time that she meets them at all, if nothing comes of it. I expect it will, and if she kills them despite how very, unusually nice they were to her, this will justify the time spent on the scene, IMO.
They did foreshadow within the Hound's plot, showing the murder/suicide of the man and his daughter. That was SO SAD.

“In Qohor he is the Black Goat, in Yi Ti the Lion of Night, in Westeros the Stranger. All men must bow to him in the end, no matter if they worship the Seven or the Lord of Light, the Moon Mother or the Drowned God or the Great Shepherd. All mankind belongs to him... else somewhere in the world would be a folk who lived forever. Do you know of any folk who live forever?”
It was a nice surprise to see the show can still do a 'slow' episode competently, in contrast to the last two seasons where it has hurtled between character deaths and battles without giving the viewer any reason to be invested in the spectacle.
I'd go as far as to say the show was displaying occasional glimpses of understanding the importance of characterization in storytelling, so I hope this episode wasn't an anomaly.

Errh...they have 6 plus 6 eps left to wrap the whole damn thing up. The...whole...KABOOSH.
So what are the chances of this not being an anomaly? I know. Rhetorical.
A few notes: Sansa could really become a problem for Jon, if he can't make her feel valued and give her some of the power she craves.
It'll be interesting to see how the power dynamic unfolds when Bran - the rightful heir to Winterfell out of the three, no question - arrives in an episode or two.
Looking forward to this, Maester Sam!
I don't know about Bran. I got a feeling he's not into the whole "I am the heir of Winterfell" thingy now that he's the 3 eyed raven. And like Maester Aemon, he probably would be content to allow Jon or Sansa to fulfill that duty seeing as he's got someother shit on his plate. Jon has Targ blood and he's probably in line to rule the whole Westeros, so maybe we get Sansa as Wardeness of the North. I know, this ain't Dorne where a woman can rule, but you never know. Stranger things have happened.
“Don’t fight in the North, or the South. Fight every battle everywhere. Always, in your mind.”
Very good episode. Would have given it a ten if not for Dany being dull as ever. Especially liked Sandor and that the Jon Sansa dialogue didn't fall flat. The 'roots' line delivered by Walder/Arya was also interesting.

That's fair enough but he can't control other people's actions in this regard (well, maybe he can). Remember, Aemon had to join the NW and get as far from the politics of the capital as possible, Bran doesn't have that luxury, he will have to remain at Winterfell.
Well, I don't have cable and I didn't actually see it from start to finish. Although I did see the selected scene y'all were talking about on youtube. I wasn't part of the hype train at all and I don't want to harsh anyone's buzz....
The show is a shadow of it's former self. The emoting business with Lena and Emilia makes me want to stick a fork their eye. Jon's sexy, brooding falls flat. Consider the depth of character they used to play. This song only has one note. Sam is more pathetic than he was when he showed up at Castle Black and Arya the Righteous... well, I threw up in my mouth a little bit too.
Peter Dinklage? WTF has happened to Tyrion's character?
12 eps to go to wrap the whole damn thing. At this point I want tits (ah...turds), dragons, blood, sweat, violence, more dragons, more tits (ah...turds), even more dragons, MORE EVERYTHING !!! And not motherfucking *On Golden Pond*!!
I want this shit to go Full Metal Senseless Michael Bay, so that westeros.org and aosiaf.reddit implode in indignation once and for all.
(Meanwhile, another 10 million dollars on Fat Gandalf´s account for syndication royalties).

I wasn't a big fan. I could see why they did that scooby doo shit with Arya in the cold open and how it was designed to fire everyone up as revenge for the red wedding (it worked on my roomie, and a lot of you, so success?) but I thought it was weak. They could have had her kill everyone in a more 'realistic' way than that, well, scooby doo shit.
The scene of the Hound looking into the fire and seeing a bunch of white walkers also didn't work for me b/c they showed nothing to the viewers; seems a low budget move for such a show. Didn't even realize that ginger singer had a cameo so that didn't bother me at first, but remember there are only 6 more eps left this season.
I've been seeing more and more criticism of recent seasons lately (as build up to this season, there are so many reviews) and i'm getting it.
I did appreciate the Sam montage if only b/c this show never does shit like that (Preacher does)
