Well, I see more ice/wolf/Stark imagery in Dany that I thought my first couple times through the series, and would not be terribly surprised if she ends up having Stark blood. However, I am not sold on she and Jon being twins. Thematically it would work, but that is a literature trope that I think GRRM would be more interesting in breaking than using for his lead characters. If Jon and Dany were twins, I would think they would have some type of connection to each other, and they don't seem too. If Jon or Dany has a twin, I don't think it is each other.
I think GRRM probably has to be vague about any timeline comments any more for a couple reason. 1) his readers know his timeline better than he does. He admits he is poor at it, and it think that is probably true. That is why some stuff doesn't match very well, and it leads to people questioning the details to death. 2)any comments he makes about anything, including ages, sends people of onto wild tangents and theory building (myself included), and I think he just feels it's safer to be guarded. It's easier to be vague and not be accused of lying later, when things don't work out. He is much more guarded in any answers he makes now than he was 10 or 15 years ago. 3) if he reveals to much, people might figure out his mysteries, and I don't think that the majority of people have. I think he is still hoping to shock people in the end. RLJ would not shock people, but RLD might! Of course, maybe RLJ is the big reveal, and the fact that so many people figured it out, is the reason that he has lost all ambition for writing this story.
Yeah,it's possible that might be the case which is sad really since the story is so much bigger than that reveal/theory but honestly if he decided to switch the story from RLJ to RLD it wouldn't feel forced to me at all.It may actually work better story wise since Rhaegar has been so prominent in Danny's life and the decisions she makes. She's also the perfect combination of R and unlike her supposed parents whom she barely spares any thought for.It also makes Ned's promise to Lyanna even more heartbreaking if Dany was Lyanna's daughter and Ned failed to protect her like he had promised his sister.
Weirdly enough, in the black cells, when Ned's mind is wandering, he thinks of many things, including Harrenhall, Robert, Brandon, Lyanna, Jaime, Rhaegar, Arthur Dayne, but never a child. He doesn't think of Ashara, and only thinks of Lyanna with that rose crown which was given to her by Rhaegar, but never hinting at a child, and that rose crown caused Ned's hands to bleed. Bleed? Really bleed or figuratively bleed? And the "promise me". He never indicates in his thoughts that any child was linked to Lyanna. And he only thinks of Jon Snow later, after Varys has prompted him. It's all so damn vague. I give GRRM credit for weaving a complex mystery!
