Jon does not! Sorry if I made that sound confusing. I meant that many people assume that Jon will wield Dawn (or even a reforged Ice, which is tinfoil dear to my heart) but Dawn is a great sword (as would be a reforged Ice) and Jon has no practice with a sword of that size and weight. Jon is used to a long sword and a bastard sword in size. Of course, with time, Jon could/would learn. I am certain Ned had no practice with a great sword at some point, or Mance, or SAD, and they all learned. So their is certainly time for Jon to do this.
Misunderstanding my bad.
Also Jon is the small and quick brother while Robb was the bigger and stronger one. Jon will end up not with Dawn or Ice reforged but Dark Sister from Bloodraven.
I am no expert on swords, but I have done a bit of looking into them, and size wise it seems that a long sword is the shortest of what we hear about in this story (with the exception of Bravos blades like Needle), with a bastard sword being next in size up, and finally a great sword is the largest. This would both apply to length of blade as well as the pommel. I think the bastard sword size falls in between a long and great sword, and is called a hand and a half sword because the pommel length falls between the pommel size of a long and great sword (with a long sword designed to be used with one hand and a shield and a great sword used with two-hands). I think of it like the bears in Goldilocks: little bear (long), mama bear (bastard) and papa bear (great), but different weaponry sites list some things that are confusing as far as size goes.

As for weight, it seems like Valyrian steel is lighter than regular steel, and we don't know how much Dawn weights. It could be lighter than Valyrian steel, and quite easy to swing. Or it might weight a ton unless it is in the correct hands, such as the Sword of the Morning!
Dawn is considered the equal to Valyrian Steel so I'd say its lighter as well. If not is just makes Arthur Dayne and the rest of the SoTM even bigger badasses.
Want to hear my notion on the creation of Dawn vs Valyrian Steel?
