This is an interesting idea. The CotF seemed to gift weapons made of obsidian to the Night's Watch for some reason. Perhaps it was to break the spell of the agent's of the Other's, the walking dead, the wights!
Indeed it seems that the most logical explanation for the gift of obsidian is that it breaks the Other's spell, whether that spell is just Mist or embodied Mist.
The gift of obsidian weapons could have been in exchange for bronze weapons, that is also possible. Unlikely since it is not mentioned explicitly; or perhaps the NW would not have recorded trading with the children if it was forbidden.
Not going to lie, if it was Sam who killed Small Paul, it would have a major impact since Small Paul saved Sam by carrying him when he had given up. But, if Sam does kill Small Paul, what does he use as a weapon. Sam seems to think he lost his sword on the Fist, and I think Small Paul has a axe as a weapon, not a sword. Still the idea of this being the case does seem like the sort of twisted reality that GRRM likes to deal in.
In this tinfoil, Sam kills Small Paul, because Small Paul picked him up and carried him when Sam was in a such a state that he did not want to be picked up, he just wanted to die. Later on:
Small Paul had no answer for him. The big man gave a grunt and sank to his knees. His arms trembled as he lay Sam gently in the snow. "I can't carry you no more. I would, but I can't." He shivered violently.
why would SP shiver violently? has Sam just done something to him?
He heard a crack, like the sound ice makes when it breaks beneath a man's foot, and then a screech so shrill and sharp that he went staggering backward with his hands over his muffled ears,
a broken back snapping and a cry of pain?
Grenn pulled Sam to his feet, checked Small Paul for a pulse and closed his eyes, then snatched up the dagger again. This time he was able to hold it.
no mention of any wounds on SP, neither now nor later when SP catches up to Sam to kill him. In fact Grenn does not even have a word to say about SP, he just closes his (SP's) eyes.
Still, i know it does not hang together well, but hey, didn't GRRM stumped everyone when he admitted to Ned's dreams being feverish?
If Ned was feverish, then how far gone was Sam?
While I do like the idea that the Other's are what animate's the wights, I still see the Other's as having a solid form, not just being a image in the mist. Simply because something solid killed Waymer Royce, and while we can question that Will might not have the best view, the wight of Waymer was a missing eye, which indicates an injury by a weapon stronger than mist.
what do you mane of this quote?
Will rose. Ser Waymar Royce stood over him.
His fine clothes were a tatter, his face a ruin. A shard from his sword transfixed the blind white pupil of his left eye.

Poor old Waymar put his own sword through his own eye...
His sword shattered during the fight, a shard flew into his eye and killed him. Other shards lacerated him.
I just feel like someone so powerful should not doubt her own power, or even have to deal in powders and potions. She might be strong, but she is dangerous because she doesn't know what she is capable of, perhaps. She is the sword without a hilt! Dangerous!
Her ability to birth shadow babies to perform targeted remote killings is unique. Does the deed take as much from her as it seems to take from her donors (ie Stannis)? is this why she has to glamour herself?
Have you discussed whether she is a free agent or whether she is controlled/manipulated?
