Haha, me too! What kind of magic are they planning on doing, if this is the case?
I am not sure, but the idea of "first the father and then the son, so they both die kings" might be a prophecy as old as time, and not tied to any one religion or concept. Something about Barbrey as lady of the Barrowlands, a place where dead are traditionally buried in mounds, one the largest one associated with a barrow king, a giant (of a man, perhaps) just tempts me to think something mystical could happen.
Took a quick look for something, which I didn't find, but I did find another interesting detail I hadn't noticed before!
"Who comes?" His lips were moist, his neck red above his collar. "Who comes before the god?"
The Prince of Winterfell
Singular, not plural! So which god is Ramsay thinking of? Does the Boltons keep but one god? Or does he have that from his mother?
For the reader he might be pointing to Bran-in-the-tree, but would he know that?
Yes, the god, singular! I have seen this pointed out before. What god is Ramsey talking about? The old gods seems tied together, and even the Faith is tied to seven images of one god, but that doesn't seem right either. R'hller is a single god, but so is "the great other". We also have the drowned god and the storm god. My guess is that Ramsay's god might be in opposition to R'hller, but I don't have much to back that concept up on. He's such a crazy fook, but I do get the impression that he might be given information in dreams, just like several of our other characters. However, Ramsay himself is a bit like a storm, untamed, unpredictable and destructive, so if his "god" was the storm god, that would not surprise me, I guess.
There are three, all in direct line of descent. And it seems interesting, which I have to look up closer for details.
Walder's third son is Aenys, who fathered Aegon Bloodborn (interesting nickname!) an outlaw, and Rhaegar-in-a-pie.
Well, then, Aegon/Jinglebell is a different Aegon than Aegon Bloodborn. Isn't Aegon "bloodborn" Frey the one that is theorized to be an outlaw that might fit the description of the "mad huntsman"?
It is interesting that Aenys Frey is married to a Tyana, which does sound just like Tyanna of the Tower, whom Maegor was married too. Perhaps GRRM just likes to reuse these names with no particular intent?
Anyway, Aegon/Jinglebell is the son of Steveron and has a sister named Maegelle, another Targaryen name. When looking at this, I was interested to see how high Aegon/Jinglebell is on the Frey succession, he is Walder Frey's eldest son's second son, with only three sons of his brother Ryman in front of him in the succession. Not that anyone was letting Jinglebell inherit the Twins, but ...
There could be more but honestly reading through the lineage made my eyes twitch. I swear I just kept seeing Walder and Walda over and over and over again! That can't be right!
If he did win by nefarious or unchivalrous means, I'd think he'd have that secured before the tourney. (Personally I like to think he actually was good enough to win on his own accord, but that is mostly because so many the he wouldn't be able to. So more of a protest line of thinking, haha!)
Finally got around to reading the Dunk and Egg stuff and it seems like The Mystery Knight has clear parallel's to Harrenhal and Rhaegar. If Daemon Blackfyre was made to look like a great warrior, but it turns out that his opponents were getting bribed to lose, then I think this could hint to us about Rhaegar and his tourney wins. Now, Daemon/John the Fiddler wasn't aware of what was going on, and Rhaegar might not have either, but that still indicates he didn't win on his own merit. Now, GRRM might be trolling a bit with this story and Harrenhal, but even naming Daemon "John the Fiddler" seems overt. Fiddling is a type of stringed instrument, just like the harp that is associated with Rhaegar. So perhaps no magic, but certainly bribery might have been going on with Rhaegar at Harrenhal.
Did all those people Rhaegar defeated accept bribes? Would that include Brandon Stark?
