I like the opening with the kid running and climbing the tree to see everyone march in. Nice call back to Bran watching Robert et al enter WF.
Lots of distrust on the faces of the Northerners as ppl stream in. Dany seems proud that her dragon scare them shitless. Respect born from love is greater than respect born out of fear, my Queen.
Fuck Bran, such a downer.
Everyone is pissy about bending the knee but I disagree with that. If he's not KitN, they're all still subject to WF rule.
Sansa has done a good job of ruling the North. Joffrey's wedding "had it's moments". Lol Weird that no one has mentioned LF.
Jon and Arya's reunion made me choke up. Jon is gonna have to choose between his Starks and Dany.
Why didn't Euron kill Yara? He set off to kill her and Theon when he was 1st crowned. She's got plot armor, I guess.
Elephants are too expensive, would've taken away from the DW budget. Oh wait.
Cersei wants him to wait until after the war before she weds and beds him? No way will anyone believe the baby is his. She's smarter than that, isnt she?
I'll post more after I finish a godforsaken irrigation issue.
The blade was Valyrian steel, spell-forged and dark as smoke. Nothing held an edge like Valyrian steel.
Let's talk opening credits. Lion, headless body, man holding head. The headless body looks like Robb littered with arrows, the head looks like a wolf, the man has no face.
Very intriguing. I was grabbing drinks during the credits so I missed them. Lol
The man could be flayed. Would be a cool nod to Roose.
"I can see it. You have more of the north in you than your brothers."
Arya was awesome (as always), but the whole thrust of this season was completely given away. i've got the feeling Dany is going to fail the test Sam and the rest have set up for her (Would she give up her crown to save her people).
Definitely agree. Dany always chooses power.
If the show hadn't combined Dany with Val and Jon with Young Griff, I might appreciate this contrast more, as it is now quite muddled. I miss GRRM's subtlety with such character/plot developments, but in lieu of that, at least it felt plausible. Book-Jon does embrace the duty of leadership, while shunning the trappings of power and privelege... while Dany embraces the latter far more than the former.
it even seemed like Dany was a real live person for some bits.
I think that tends to happen when Emilia Clarke gets out of character actually. Her vision and/or her directors' visions for Dany have been a stiff 2x4 with monotone voiceovers, whereas Emilia is naturally empathetic, sincere, and jovial.
Sam was good, even if the whole plot with him and Bran is clunky. and the Kingslayer and Bran (or whatever the fuck they've made him in this show) meet again...
Didn't care for Sam's scenes in this episode, but at least they kept Gilly off screen. That is no small gift. lol
Bran is the plothole duct tape guy, and a perfect metaphor for the show: an eyeroll in a wheelchair. I prefer my Brans tully-colored and carried by Hodors.
i was entertained, and the dragon flight and homage to the hot spring cave deep in the north were pretty cool to me.
Like stdaga , those scenes took me right out of the show. Overall, it was a very entertaining episode and job well done on that front. But I wasn't drunk enough to enjoy that scene.

Mojo, DarkSister1001, karsa, I moved a few posts from the Season 8 rumors/spoilers thread over to here for the Episode discussion and a few of yours/mine were included

Actually, the head looks a bit like the NK bc of the horns. Faceless man, if that's what it is, is Arya. Gods be good, I'd be ok with Arya taking his face to kill Cersei.

Who’s face do you think Arya is referring to in the trailer for next week?

Interesting, though I'm not sure I think the head look like a direwolf's head. Maybe I saw the image too close at once for that.

lol!
On the other hand, I have seen actresses who are naturaly jovial and playful have problems with a more uptight character in the first season, but get the hang of it as time goes by. Some of them even nails it perfectly. So I do think Emilia falls a bit short here.

Best make sure you have enough on board before an eventual rewatch, and before the rest of the season!

It kinda reminds me of when Ned's head was shown to the crowd. But that might just be in the books. It's been years since I last saw s1.
The worst part was that I had actually gotten past knitting the first 5 rows and reaching the impressive length 17 inches or so. Only to find that I lacked almost 3 inches in diameter...
And those balls of yarn when you're done... Sigh! But the best way I've found so far to make it ready for another try, is to wind the kinked yarn into a hank, and then soak it in luke warm water. It straightens out in seconds! Then let it dry and wind into a ball! Yes, I've tried several methods before. Worst was with a lace weight yarn, which is really really thin, and so the amount is never ending in a large project!
But the end result will be beautiful, though! So it's worth a bit of pain in the ass to get there!
Indeed!
"Arya did not dare take a bath, even though she smelled as bad as Yoren by now, all sour and stinky. Some of the creatures living in her clothes had come all the way from Flea Bottom with her; it didn’t seem right to drown them."
This episode was mostly as I (and I think everyone) expected ...with one exception. Theon's rescue mission was SO anti-climactic. What the fuck was up with that? Theon wants to go fight at Winterfell (which makes so little sense. He got flayed, how can he fight? Does he expect the White Walkers to repeatedly kick him in the balls?). I imagine Yara won't make an appearance again until the very end. Euron has business in King's Landing I think. There has to be some intrigue there.
I'm a little disappointed there was no Edmure and Sweetrobin.
That Euron-Yara scene though. It really struck me how tame that was compared to the Forsaken chapter. It was even broad daylight...
I think that dragonriding scene was just fine. If Jon is going to ride Rhaegal then he needs some training. I'm glad he didn't just master it instantly. I also really appreciated Emilia Clarke's acting this time. Dany actually had some character, whereas Jon was just his deadpan self.
I don't understand why they decided to give that guy the name Harry Strickland. He's not at all similar. And why does he have an accent? And that excuse about how elephants can't travel on boats is stupid and contradicts the books...
I'm conflicted when it comes to the Tarly schism. One the one hand I like that at least some things have consequences. But it also became really obvious that the only reason they went out of their way to have Dickon Tarly burned (even though they had to change actors) is so that there could be a conflict between Jon and Dany. It's a bit cheap. I'm not sure if Sam would really react like that, even to the death of his brother. But more importantly, I hate how burning the Tarlys is made into Dany's most horrible sin. I especially hated Tyrion and Varys' conversation about how she was out of control from Season 7, but whatever. My point is, Dany gave them a choice. And Dickon fucking VOLUNTEERED to be executed. And execution by dragonfire should be fairly humane if you ask me. I'd take that any day over a Theon-style beheading.
Let's talk opening credits. Lion, headless body, man holding head. The headless body looks like Robb littered with arrows, the head looks like a wolf, the man has no face.
So this, I had to take a picture of it and then zoom on each part. The first looks like a lion with a fish in it's mouth, the second appears to be the skinned body of a wolf and the body is full of arrows, it is hanging by a noose, but the head looks like something besides a direwolf (the neck is unusual but also similar to the neck of the Stark sigil on the show, with the graphic design for fur), and the third image is a flayed man holding a direwolf head. So, this definitely screams Red Wedding. It's the Frey sigil in the background.
I wonder if they might do this for all major happenings in the story, like we will see something different each episode?
Near the end of the credit's, there was another thing that stood out. I have a picture on my phone, but it appears to be four dragons. One large one, three small ones, and then what appears to be a dragon head attached to a shooting star or comet tail. This image looks to me like there are either wolves or stags in the shadow on the ground. I can't find an image on the internet (which honestly surprises me, so I might need to figure out how to post from my phone.
I wonder if there is more in the credit's that it seems. Really, it was all different, with seeing the wall fall, the crypts and the winter town gate as part of Winterfell. And then Kings Landing, but that look inside the Red Keep was unusual, too!
ETA: I edited in an attempt to put this other image up but this might turn out to be a disaster!
Also, perhaps that is Robb's body with a direwolf sewed on it, that is hanging from the noose!

Their father understood as well. "You want no pup for yourself, Jon?" he asked softly.
