Does anyone come online here anymore? Should we make a site about a new series and archive all the grrm stuff? Maybe I should start a travel blog
“Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armour yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you.” ― George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones

There will be a new novella in the next 5 years, maybe. If/when that comes, there will be much and more to discuss. Then there is the posthumous Winds of Winter publication to look forward to. 💀
"I can see it. You have more of the north in you than your brothers."

I would be sad if the site changed. I know it's been quiet lately, but I think the long delay in getting more of the story has jaded book readers. And the show's tragic decline felt like a slap in the face. I also think that people spend more time on youtube watching video's than reading theories. We just need to get interest or attention back to this site.
I know people check in, but rarely do people comment any more. I don't know how to change that. Certainly, a new book would help. But even Fire and Blood didn't spark very much discussion on this site, and I am not sure why.
Their father understood as well. "You want no pup for yourself, Jon?" he asked softly.

"Arya did not dare take a bath, even though she smelled as bad as Yoren by now, all sour and stinky. Some of the creatures living in her clothes had come all the way from Flea Bottom with her; it didn’t seem right to drown them."

I confess to being one of the jaded book reader. I have also come to think there aren't as many mysteries as we might think.
As for a new topic on the fantasy theme, my vote would have to go to The malazan book of the fallen. But i don't see that story as a mystery haven eventhough there is plenty to talk about.

I am in a way, but not completely yet. I do think we will get Winds, sometime... but I don't know if we will ever get Dream, and that does make me sad.

It's possible. Or that GRRM has written a less clever story than I had originally thought. Maybe he isn't as crafty as I thought, and that would be disappointing!

I am not familiar with this. I will have to put in on a list. I am currently reading the Wheel of Time series, but in an ever so casual manner. And I plan to reread the Lord of the Rings stories soon. And I have been thinking about The Bone Witch series and I have a Discovery of Witches in my house, but it's still in a box since I moved last year.

Considering the man's track record and current projects, I might be exaggerating the dates by decades
you forgot to mention his age and health...

This quiet is across the entire fandom. Main responsibility is the ever waning perspective of getting future books, especially anything beyond tWoW. Let´s stop blaming the show´s perceived wrapping quality or lack thereof for this - this is on Martin and Martin alone. The show offered some sort of closure that people (including me) can live with, so people move on.
In this sense: Thank you, George, for an entertaining time. I did not spend all that much, so I got good bangs for my bucks, but with every week that passes, I give less of a shit whether you wrap this or not.

Agreed that the bulk of the fandom has had a drop in traffic on the boards, and that probably translates to the fact that people care less. The delay in the next book is no doubt the biggest reason for this. Or the lack of people having hope that another book will ever be published.
But I do think the shows ending did have something to do with a decline in attention. There is the whole "Dany would never do that" camp, that is terribly pissed about the fall of who they perceive to be the heroine of the story. I was actually surprised by how many people were so angry about her role, although I do believe the show took a abbreviated and hurried ending to the end. There is the whole "Jon is the heir and should be king" camp who also feel quite slighted. Neither of those things bothered me. I for one, am of part of the fandom that wasn't satisfied with the conclusion the show gave us (I was entirely unsatisfied with S6 & S7, too!), because even if it has the seeds of GRRM's ending, it wasn't fleshed out well. I think he can and will do a much better job, even if the outcome is the same. However, it didn't change the let down feeling I had when the show ended in the way it did.
And even if I didn't spend a great deal of money over the years on this story, I still feel an emotional investment to the story that the shows ending could not sooth. I can see that is entirely my fault for becoming that invested in the first place, but I can't change how engaged I am in the book story. A much better story than the show told. I honestly didn't dislike season 5 as much as many people did, but it was a decline, and each season that followed was also a decline in the story's quality. I actually think of bulk of story telling, S7 is much worse than S8. The only think the show has going for it at this point is that there is a conclusion, but that doesn't mean it's a cohesive ending. I'm not looking for a happy ending, just one that made some sense. And whatever might have seemed like little mysteries that were left up to the reader after the episode was destroyed by reading the finale script. Of which I only got through 4 pages before I quit, because it felt so awful. However, I seen enough comments about script jokes and dialogue to shake my head and wonder how something that once was so good, became so poorly written and executed. And that I blame on the show creator's/writing team with a little salting from GRRM, with his lack of production of furthering the story.
Between the two mediums, the fandom on the boards have been severely stilted in recent months.

One problem: You are assuming that a satisfactory ending to the show would result in more fan activity. I myself believe more in a "Truman-Show"-type scenario: Oh, great ending! OK...errh...what else is on? ... ... crickets ... dust devils ... ...

Well, you can see it as a problem, but I think that a more satisfactory ending of the show might have brought more readers to the books, people who had only watched but were interested in picking up the novels afterwards, and some of those people would have used the discussion boards. It think even people who read the books but never had made use of the boards, might have decided to look into some online discussion. As it stands, I don't see that happening. It felt like a quickly deflated balloon. Certainly, that's opinion only!
And as I said, much of the problem is the lack of The Winds of Winter. I don't know how things were on boards such as this in the long wait for Dance because I was reading the novels, and would not allow myself access to the boards until I had completed the series. Maybe there was a drop in activity then, as well.
