Ooohhh, Nightmare!! I haven't talked about him yet, although I'm positive that George has blended him in to his bad guy gods in several ways. It's a great arc too.
I love that in the vid all the GRRM stuff is over her right shoulder as she's talking about a Marvel/Stan Lee creation - so literally, George RR Martin is sitting at the right hand of God. LOL
I have LOTS of notes for Origin Arc that may pertain to/touch on the Starks and the North, but as far as i recall it's mostly about the Targaryens. I'm pretty happy with the Northern stuff stemming mainly from Conan origin theory, since GRRM has copped to being a huge fan of Robert E. Howard (and of course the corresponding comic).
Something I did find interesting in the SSMs, though - buried deep in the chat archives, GRRM had a nice conversation with some folks in the ME about Syria - the rich history and lore, and monuments, etc. When GRRM gets interested in a location, I'm going to get interested in it too. I think I need to dig into that for the Meereen plot....but I digress.
Anyway, glad you are enjoying it again! As soon as I can control myself from spinning into side tangents, I will work on getting Origin Arc laid out. That has parts that are pertinent to Modern Arc that are dy-no-mite.

Just finished the thread. This is fascinating! I was never much into comics as a kid, though I did enjoy the X-Men cartoons on Saturdays (oh Saturday Morning Cartoons, how I mourn thee), so this is all really new and I love learning new stuff!
I'm gonna head on over to the other Marvel-ous thread and see what I can learn there!

When looking at Marvel as an influence on GRRM, looking at Dr. Strange (especially this pilot for a 1970s TV show about the character) really makes a lot of things people don't quite grasp about Bran make sense.
Also, the reviewer suddenly realizes GRRM's potential influence when speaking about Morgan Le Fay.
Give the review a watch. Stan Lee is on record for saying that the pilot is the best thing of Marvel 1970s TV that he likes.

Very informative review/summary. I have a few thoughts on Mel that I've been wanting to write up in a new OP but I haven't had time. I think Morgan le Fay (of both Dr Strange and Arthurian lore) largely inspired ASOIAF's red priestess, but I think there is another contender that warrants consideration as well.
