Yes, yes, yes! I think you’ve nailed it, SlyWren. Now I am a notorious Dayne lover, granted, but this makes tons of sense. Especially the Elia/Ashara compared to Selyse/Melisandra. Brilliant, down to one plain, one beautiful; desiring a son, etc. (Rhaegar did need one more son. Two kings, one to die a king, blah, blah.)But this one really feels like a group effort: markg171 's and @prettypig 's ideas re: Dany's timeline. voice and @superunknown5 re: Arthur as possibly father. voice and Black Crow on the likelihood of Jon's being at Starfall, etc. . . seems like we've all been hash it out in bits and pieces--and then Mojo started the thread and we could all work on trying to make it gel.
Hurrah for group work!
And I'll add that Arthur would be the Davos in the Stannis parallel. The one left over after Stannis self-destructs on prophecy and fire (which is where I really think he is going). He was supposed to be the most just of men. Rhaegar was supposed to be ideal, too. But if both were fanatics of a sort, seems likely that their most faithful friends would both be practical sorts. Loyal to the man/leader, but not necessarily true believers in the cause.
I would say this is possible. Again, the TOJ is located in the Prince's Pass. You might've heard elsewhere that it was in the middle of nowhere and remote, but that's a load of horseshit. It's literally on the highway into Dorne, within hours of 3 different castles (none of which happens to be Starfall either...). It's a freaking modern day Mcdonalds along a highway. It probably sees tons of traffic, and Kingsgrave, Vulture's Roost, and Nightsong all know everything that happens there.
So, is this the kinda place where you spends months, a year? Or the kinda place you make a pit stop at?
You are preaching to the choir, dude!
Bingo. You need a kid? You gonna go track down that northern girl you met a year ago who's already betrothed to another, or you gonna fuck the Dornish girl who's your wife's maid? One requires you to cause a war, the other doesn't.
Yup! And, with Selyse and Mel, Martin handed us a precedent.
